Multilingual websites for Malta businesses
Malta works in two languages and sells to visitors who speak a dozen more. Every theme in my catalogue is multilingual-ready, and this site itself has an Italian edition.
Why a Malta website usually needs more than one language
Maltese and English are both official languages, and much of the island’s custom comes from Italy, the UK and the rest of Europe. A restaurant, a hotel, a clinic or a professional practice that only speaks to one of those groups leaves the others to the competition. A multilingual site is not a luxury here; it is how you are found by the people who were already looking for you.
How I build it
There is a right way and a cheap way. The cheap way is a translate widget that rewrites the page in the browser: search engines never see the translated text, so you are invisible in every language except the one you wrote. The right way, which is what I build, gives each language its own real pages:
- One URL per language, so Google can index the Italian page as an Italian page and the Maltese page as a Maltese page.
- hreflang tags that tell search engines which page is which language, so the right one appears for the right visitor.
- A language switcher that takes the visitor to the same page in the other language, not back to the homepage.
- Translated titles, descriptions and share cards, not only the body text.
- The same design system in every language, so nothing breaks when German runs a third longer than English.
You decide the languages. The structure is identical for each, and adding a language later is a matter of adding pages, not rebuilding the site.
Which tier
Multi-language and multi-region support is built into the Tailored tier (4,700 euro), together with a full design system and advanced integrations, which is why it suits hotels and established businesses. For a One-Pager, Essential or Studio site, tell me which languages you need and I will quote the extra pages. See the Italian edition of this site for an example of a second language done as a real page.
What stays the same
Every language version gets the same foundations as the rest of my work: mobile-first design, a 90+ Lighthouse performance target, SEO basics, accessibility, HTTPS and privacy-first analytics. And you own the lot: domain, hosting account and code.

Frequently asked questions
Which languages can the site be in?
Any you need. Maltese, English and Italian are the common request in Malta, and the structure is the same for each additional language.
Is a translate widget enough?
Not if you want to be found. Browser-side translation is invisible to search engines. Real pages per language with hreflang tags are what rank.
Does every language need its own content?
Yes. Each language gets its own pages, titles and descriptions. You supply or approve the translations and I build and link the pages.
Which tier includes multiple languages?
The Tailored tier includes multi-language and multi-region support. For smaller tiers I quote the extra language pages separately.
Can I add a language later?
Yes. Because each language is a set of real pages on the same design system, adding one later means adding pages, not rebuilding.
