Clipmunk: clipboard history for your Mac

Your Mac forgets everything you copy the moment you copy something else. Clipmunk keeps it, text and images alike, in a searchable history you can scroll back through, so the thing you copied twenty minutes ago is still there when you need it.

Download Clipmunk, free 30-day trial Buy a licence, 10 euro one-time

Requires macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later. Runs on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Notarised by Apple. The download is a .zip: open it and the disk image is inside.

What it does

  • Automatic history. Everything you copy is kept and searchable: text, links, images.
  • Pins and groups. Pin the snippets you reuse constantly, and gather related ones into named groups.
  • Secrets are skipped. Anything copied out of a password manager is not recorded, unless you deliberately turn that off in Settings.
  • Per-app exclusions. Tell Clipmunk to ignore an app entirely.
  • Light, Dark or System appearance, and a menu-bar item so you can hide the Dock icon and keep it out of the way.
  • Nothing leaves your Mac. No account, no server, no analytics, no telemetry. The history is a local file, and that is the whole design.

Trial, free tier and price

The trial lasts 30 days with full functionality and no card required. When it ends, Clipmunk keeps working for free with 25 saved items, 2 pins and no groups. A licence is 10 euro, paid once: no subscription and no renewals. Licences are sold through Stripe, and you can also buy from the ABCapps page.

Why a clipboard manager

Copy and paste is the most used feature on any computer, and the system clipboard holds exactly one item. Anyone who writes, codes, does support, fills in forms or moves text between documents copies the same things over and over. A clipboard history turns that into a list you can search and reuse, and pins turn the things you paste every day, an address, a signature, a code snippet, into one click.

Privacy by design

A clipboard manager sees everything you copy, which is exactly why Clipmunk keeps the history on your Mac only. There is no account to create, no sync server and no analytics. Copies from password managers are skipped by default, and you can exclude any other app in Settings.

Installing

  1. Download the .zip above and open it. The disk image is inside.
  2. Open the disk image and drag Clipmunk to your Applications folder.
  3. Launch it. The app is notarised by Apple, so macOS opens it without warnings.
  4. Copy something. It is now in your history.

Clipmunk is one of five small Mac apps I make. The others, DiscoSync, MacFloss, Kagenda and Wazzup, are on the Mac apps page.

Frequently asked questions

Is Clipmunk a subscription?

No. The licence is 10 euro, paid once. There are no renewals.

What happens when the 30-day trial ends?

Clipmunk keeps working for free with 25 saved items, 2 pins and no groups. Buying a licence removes those limits.

Does it record passwords?

Anything copied out of a password manager is skipped by default. You can turn that off in Settings if you really want to, and you can exclude any other app too.

Does the history sync between Macs?

No. There is no account and no server. The history is a local file on your Mac, which is the point of the design.

Which Macs does it run on?

Any Mac running macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later, Apple Silicon or Intel.

Is it safe to open?

Yes. Clipmunk is notarised by Apple. The download is a .zip containing the disk image.
