DiscoSync: every speaker in the room, playing in step
Play through every speaker you own at the same time: the built-in ones, the Bluetooth speaker in the kitchen, the monitor, the soundbar. The hard part is that they do not arrive together. DiscoSync measures each delay and takes it out.
Download DiscoSync, free 14-day trial Buy, 8.99 euro per year
Requires macOS 14.4 (Sonoma) or later. Runs on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. The download is a .zip: open it and the disk image is inside.
The problem it solves
macOS can send sound to more than one output, but every speaker has its own latency: a wired monitor plays almost instantly, a Bluetooth speaker a fraction of a second later, a soundbar somewhere in between. Played together, the result is an echo, loud in several places but never in step. DiscoSync exists to make a room full of mismatched speakers sound like one system.
What it does
- Together mode combines your speakers into one output device, so anything that plays on your Mac plays on all of them.
- Aligned mode compensates each speaker’s individual delay so the room is genuinely in step, not just loud in several places.
- Auto-tune plays a short chirp, listens with the built-in microphone, and measures each speaker’s offset for you. No stopwatch, no guessing.
- Per-speaker control: volume, bass boost and crispness, tuned per device and remembered.
- Menu-bar access: switch modes and speakers from anywhere, with an optional Dock icon.
- Your calibration stays yours. Measurements live on your Mac. No account, no server.
Trial, free tier and price
The trial lasts 14 days with everything unlocked. After that DiscoSync keeps working for free with up to 2 speakers at once, which is also where Bluetooth radios start dropping packets anyway. The full version is 8.99 euro a year, billed yearly through Stripe.
Getting started
- Download the .zip, open it, and drag DiscoSync from the disk image to Applications.
- Launch it and choose the speakers you want to use together.
- Run Auto-tune once: the app plays a chirp through each speaker and listens with the Mac’s microphone to measure the delay.
- Switch to Aligned mode and play anything. Per-speaker volume, bass and crispness are in the menu-bar panel.
DiscoSync is one of five small Mac apps I make. See also Clipmunk and MacFloss, or the full list.
Frequently asked questions
Does DiscoSync work with Bluetooth speakers?
Yes. Bluetooth speakers are exactly the case it was built for, because their delay is the largest. Note that Bluetooth radios start dropping packets beyond about 2 speakers at once.
How does it measure the delay?
Auto-tune plays a short chirp through each speaker and listens with the Mac’s built-in microphone to work out each one’s offset. You can also adjust per speaker by hand.
Is it a subscription?
Yes, 8.99 euro a year, billed yearly. The trial is 14 days with everything unlocked.
What is free after the trial?
DiscoSync keeps working with up to 2 speakers at once for free.
Which Macs does it run on?
Any Mac running macOS 14.4 (Sonoma) or later, Apple Silicon or Intel.
Does it send anything to a server?
No. Your calibration and settings live on your Mac. There is no account and no server.
